Generally, I'm not of fan of the consciously quirky revelations of Aurgasm. I mean weirdness should be a corollary of musical greatness, not its axiom. Just the same, I'm grateful to Paul Irish & Co when I discover something that lifts me over the dread of contemporary music. This time, it's Addy Mercedes. Me cae bien. Cada tiempo que el termometro pasa mas de noventa grados, quiero escuchar el ritmo latino lo que me refresca.

I'm awestruck by Debussy's Children's Corner - undiminished by the many times I've heard it. Even though this year will be the 100th anniversary of this remarkable piano suite, it sounds fresh and brilliant even today. Debussy's sense of irony and humor seems to permeate this work, from such an unassuming title for such a technically demanding work to the sonic references to Tristan and Isolde peppered with staccato "chuckles". I would have loved to have a drink with this guy.

In many ways, Cosmic Slop is a nexus of American-born musical culture - a flawless confluence of soul, jazz, funk and guitar rock. Socially relevant and embodying elements of the African-American expository tradition, this is five minutes of culturally definitive music.
